Chatcode help
Chatcode allows you to do some advanced things via coded embedded within your messages.You may also use any inline Comcode you please in the chat system.
Private Messages
Private messages are inline, and due to the way that they are handled, you may have as many different private messages – each to different or identical users – as you want in every chat message. You may also put non-private text in-between the private messages, which will get displayed to everyone.Please note that staff may view private messages if they so choose to. For this reason, it is not advisable to put information of a sensitive nature, such as passwords, into a private message.
Code[private="Philip"]This message would not be displayed to anyone except Philip.[/private] | Private message from Jim: This message would not be displayed to anyone except Philip. |
Bots
You can send messages (commands) to the website itself, and any other bots we might have installed on our site. The bot will respond automatically to your commands, following its programming.To do this, just send a private message to 'bot'. We suggest you start with a message of 'help' which is a command that will cause all bots to identify themselves and the commands that they support.
Code[private="bot"]help[/private] |
Invitations
Invitations act in much the same way as private messages, apart from the fact that they can be sent to multiple people at once, and their display format is designed specifically for displaying a link to a chatroom – it displays a fixed message, and a link.Invitations should not be used in conjunction with IM conversations – they are intended only for inviting people active in chatrooms in to other chatrooms. You can invite people to an IM conversation from your the friend list in the chat lobby. You can manually invite people who are not already in a chatroom via first engaging them in an IM, or by sending them a PT (Private Topic).
Code[invite="Philip,Allen,Chris"]My Chatroom Name[/invite] | Jim has invited you to join him/her in General Chat |
New Rooms
New rooms can easily be added using chatcode. The room that you create will belong to you, and only people on the allow list will be allowed into it (as well as you), unless, of course, you don't put anything on the allow list – then the room will be public. All the people on the allow list will automatically have invitations to enter the new room sent to them. The newroom tag doesn't output anything other than this.Code
[newroom="My Chatroom Name"]Philip,Chris[/newroom]
Emoticons
Emoticons are inputted just by entering the emoticon code, e.g. :).Code | Image | Code | Image | Code | Image | Code | Image |
